March 30, 2012

The scores from the standards tests given during STAR are a major factor in determining a school's Academic Performance Index (API).   As you can see from the first chart, we have made some impressive gains in recent years.

However, this chart below shows how all the Senior High Schools in San Diego City Schools compare against each other.  We need EVERYONE to do their best if we want to remain competitive with the other schools in the district.

SPRING BREAK IS HERE!  School will be closed Monday, April 2nd through Friday, April 6th due to Spring Break.  School will be back in session on Monday, April 9th.  We hope your family enjoys a restful and relaxing break.  See you back at school on April 9th

Thank you to all the families that attended the March 28th Spring Showcase.  It proved to be an entertaining evening, filled with department displays, student performances, delicious food, and of course the staff vs. student basketball game!  We appreciate the involvement and support of our parents both at home and at school.

FREE INTERSESSION LUNCHES are available to any child 18 years old and under during intersession break, April 9-27.  No enrollment. No paperwork.  No income qualifications.  For more information go to www.sandi.net and select School Meals.

IT’S TIME TO TAKE ACTION!  MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
Public education in California is still being threatened with devastating budget cuts that continue to negatively impact our schools. The San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) recently launched the Education Issues Action Center (https://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50217/) to give supporters of public education an easy online way to learn about key legislative and budget issues and contact their elected representatives to express their opinions about school funding and other educational issues.
Learn more about the budget crisis facing our schools and make your voice heard.  Visit the Action Center today (https://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50217/).  The site provides:
    • Information about issues that impact public education, including November ballot measures
    • An easy way to identify your elected representatives
    • Prewritten support letters that can be edited and emailed immediately to register your opinions on key legislation and issues facing our schools
    • A petition you can sign to support restoration of public education funding

Sign up for updates and share the information with a friend.  You can also spread the word and share the Action Center on Facebook and Twitter!  To learn more about the Education Issues Action Center, go to: https://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50217/.
