Winter Break Reminder:
The last day of school before Winter Break is Friday, December 21st. Winter Break is from Monday, December 24th to January 4th, 2013. School will resume on Monday, January 7th, 2013.Serra's Student Of The Month Celebration Returns
After a long hiatus, Serra's Student of the Month program has returned with a new name: "The Golden Conrad Award." On Thursday, October 11th, we had a very successful presentation of the Golden Conrad Awards for 28 special students. Teachers choose a student from their Period One class that radiates positivity and/or kindness. Parents were invited and many were in attendance to see their child receive certificates that were adorned with the teachers' words of encouragement.
The next round of Golden Conrad Awards were presented on November 1st. 40 Serra students were recognized at the Golden Conrad Awards for having demonstrated outstanding collaborative skills or being a great team player. Craig Giles, Anthony Medina and Mikel Palmerin from the San Diego Sockers were also in attendance. They shared how important team work is in their competitive fields and used that experience to analogize the importance of teamwork in jobs, higher education and future careers. Also, these gentlemen were nice enough to give away three soccer balls that were signed by the team!

Graduation Update
Now that the elections are over, we know that the school year will end on June 11th, 2013. June 11th will be the last day of attendance for ALL students. Graduation will be held on Monday, June 10th, at 1:00pm in the Jenny Craig Pavilion on the USD campus. Rehearsal will held on Friday June 7th. Seniors will pick up their diplomas on Tuesday, June 11th, their last day of attendance. More info will follow as the event draws nearer.
Senior Exhibitions
Senior Exhibitions are scheduled for January 23rd and 24th, 2013. Make sure your senior has reviewed the Senior Exhibition Handbook and has started developing a plan. The handbook can be found at http://serra.sandi.net/seniorex/ Don't let them wait until the last minute to start their project. Congratulations
In Cross Country Anthony Masayesva made it all the way to the CIF State Championships and out of 184 runners he placed 21st.
Tuesday evening, December 4, 2012 five of our students were awarded scholarships by the Ford Blue Oval Operation Education Foundation. At a lovely ceremony on the USS Midway Alexandra Casison, Gabrielle Garcia, Jennifer Noullet, Katelyn Robery and Kaitlyn Sinclair received scholarships. Gabrielle Garcia was awarded $5000, the highest award of the evening. All other Serra honorees were awarded $1000. Congratulations!

For the first time ever, we had a 100% response rate for our Federal Survey Card collection. These cards bring much needed funds to our district. Thank you to all of you for helping our school.
