September 7, 2012

Welcome to the first Q-Connection of the 2012-2013 School Year.

We have had a very smooth opening of school this year.   The year started with Serra being featured on every local TV station starting at 5:00 am.   Visit http://serrahighnews.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-media-visits-serra-for-first-day-of.html for pictures and video.

All School Rules Enforcement Starts on Monday September 10th.

All the school rules and polices are detailed in the student planner that every student received with their class schedule.   This past week, class assemblies were held where the Administrative Team reviewed the school rules with all the students.  The grace period is now over.  All students are now expected to know and follow all school rules.

We have been noticing that many students have been violating the dress code.  Most of the violations have been that the shorts are too short, straps too thin and mid-drifts have been exposed. If a student violates the dress code they will be brought into the office until their parent can bring an appropriate change of clothing to the school.

Please review your student’s wardrobe this weekend to make sure it is not in violation of the dress code.  You can view the code at: http://serra.sandi.net/policies/dresscode.html

One major change to the attendance policy is that absences will now result in the student being placed on the Loss of Privileges List.   Parents have up to 5 days after an all day illness to clear the absence.  After the 5th day, the Unverified Absence becomes an Unexcused Absence or a Truancy.

For every combination of 3 tardies, unverified absences or truants in a class period during a 6 grading period, the student will receive a Loss Of Privileges Point.

For every combination of 10 overall tardies, unexcused absences or truancies the student will receive ANOTHER LOP Point.

Students with one or more LOP Points will be placed on the Loss of Privileges List.

Students on the LOP List will be not allowed to participate in extra curricular activities including dances and athletics.   Students can remove a full day absence from their record or remove 1 LOP Point by attending Saturday School.

Mark Your Calendars:  Open House Wednesday, September 19th- More details to follow.
