To make it even more fun, this year a Booster/Club activity competition will be added to the evening.  The Serra PTO is inviting each Booster organization and club to submit a cake.  Cash prizes will be given to the group whose cake wins the follow awards: $100 will go to the cake earning the highest bid, $50 will be awarded to the Most Creative and $25 awarded to the Nice Try cake.
For further information contact Teresa Stivers Long at tas@san.rr.com or 858-880-8325.

ATTENTION ALL SENIORS!

Second semester has begun, your daily attendance should now be at the top of your priority list.  Unverified Absences during this Spring Semester will impact your ability to walk in Graduation.  If you are absent, make sure to either provide documentation to excuse the absence or attend Saturday School.  June 11th, 2014 will be here before you know it – we want each and every one of you to walk across that stage.

Graduation:

You will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony if you have ANY full days of Unexcused Absences or Truancies in the Spring Semester.  You must also have a Citizenship GPA of 2.0 or higher for ALL the Spring Semester grading periods.

Prom:

You will not be allowed to attend the Prom if you have ANY full days of Unexcused Absences or Truancies in the Spring Semester.  You must also have a Citizenship GPA of 2.0 or higher for ALL the Spring Semester grading periods.   If you are on the LOP List, you will not be allowed to go to Prom.
Even though students receive written notification of absences, It is still the student's responsibility to monitor their own attendance record using the Student Portal.   Unverified Absences must be cleared within 5 days of the absence.  After the 5th day the absence will become Unexcused and WILL NOT BE CHANGED, regardless of the reason.   Once a full day absence becomes Unexcused, the only way to remove it from their record is to attend Saturday School.

Saturday School

Students can remove a full day of Unexcused Absences or Truancies by attending Saturday School.
Saturday School will be held on the following dates during the Spring Semester:
  • Feb 8
  • Feb 22 (Last SS before Winter Ball)
  • March  8
  • March 15
  • March 22
  • April 12
  • April 26
  • May 3
  • May 10
  • May 24 (Last Saturday School to make up for Prom & Graduation)

STUDENT STORE TAKES FIRST PLACE AT CCTE BUSINESS COMPETITION

On January 16, 2014 the Super Q–the student store at Serra High School–won the 2nd Annual CCTE (College Career and Technical Education) Business Competition at Madison High School. After working for five long months, with mentors from Vons to prepare for this experience, the team has seen their hard efforts pay off and are excited to be declared victors once again. "Working as an individual can result in great things, but when you have people who are willing to put in that extra mile with you, then greatness is achieved," CEO of the Super Q, senior Ricardo Durazo recalls.

Working on the student store’s weaknesses which included long lines, poor advertisement, and products hidden in the back, the leadership team worked on eliminating errors and improving the production rate of the store using the scientific method as their guidelines. The team worked together to create a strong hypothesis to eliminate problems the store was experiencing. They compiled their data and concluded that they were gathering positive results. Supervisor, Jennifer Pickering states, “This brilliant group of students demonstrated the true meaning of team work, critical thinking, and dedication under pressure.” After working on this competition for so long the team is glad to see their hard work pay off and have high hopes for next year’s leadership team.
