Changes To The LOP List

We take attendance very seriously and have created the Loss of Privileges (LOP)  List to teach the importance of being present and punctual.   “Presence” helps to develop persistence and ability to learn. Punctuality is a basic skill required of anyone who wants to get any job and become a responsible, productive adult.  In past years, the LOP list focused exclusively on tardies.  This year we have expanded it to include unexcused absences and truancies.

Students with a combination of 3 Tardies, Unexcused Absences or Truants in a given class period receive a LOP Point.   Students with a combination of 10 cumulative Tardies, Unexcused Absences or Truants receive another LOP Point.  Students with one or more LOP Points are placed on the Loss of Privileges List.

Students on the LOP List are not allowed to participate/attend/compete in athletics, band, cheer, dances, pep rallys, field trips and more.

Students have the opportunity to clean up their attendance/LOP record by attending Saturday School.

It is extremely important that you contact the Attendance Office within five (5) days of your student's absence.   If the Attendance Office is not contacted within 5 days, the absence will permanently remain as Unexcused.  All it takes is two days of Unexcused Absences (12 periods) to put your student on the list.

Monitor your student's attendance on Parent Connect so you are not caught by surprise.

Dance Dress Code

Please remember the dance dress code for all female attendees before purchasing your dress: At least finger- tip length, no spandex, and naturally flowing. Dresses may not be backless below the bra line or have side cut-outs. Front slits must be fingertip length or lower. Thank you for ensuring an elegant and tasteful dance for all.

Pictures Are Ready For Pick Up

If you ordered a picture packet at orientation, they are ready to be picked up in the Finance Office before school, during lunch and after school.

Make Up Picture Day

The last make up picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9. Students will receive a pass from their first period teacher. If, for some reason, they did not get a pass they can just go to the wrestling room during lunch and get their picture taken.

Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends is back and in full swing! This unique lunch club promotes inclusion on our campus with students of all ability levels eating lunch together on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Circle of Friends has brought understanding and acceptance of ALL students at Serra and proves that "it's never too late to make a friend". Consider joining this club if you want to make a difference in someone elses life, including your own!

Apple Smiles- We made these treats to prove that smiling helps give a good first impression! Being friendly means having a smile on your face!

Canine “Drug Dogs” Return to Serra High School.

Serra High School is committed to providing a safe and drug free learning environment for each and every one of our students and staff. To that end, Serra High School Administration is renewing their contract with Interquest Detection Canines Inc., to provide trained detection canines to conduct random, unannounced inspections on campus.

These canines are trained to detect the presence of illicit drugs, alcohol, and gunpowder-based items. During the random, unannounced visits, campus buildings, parking lots, and grounds will be randomly inspected for prohibited items. If detected and found, the school will initiate the appropriate disciplinary action.

The first visit of the school year occurred during the morning of September 19th, 2012. These random, unannounced visits will continue throughout the school year.
